The Hmong people are an ethnic group in East and Southeast Asia. They live mainly in southern China, Vietnam and Laos, but the most of Hmong embroidery now comes from a region in Thailand.
It is said the Hmong women hid the ancient Hmong paj ntaub script in the clothing of the Hmong people, and from this time forward, the scripts became motifs in the Hmong embroidery.
Suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative tribal textile made in Central Asia. A specialty of Uzbekistan (particularly the city of Bukhara – a UNESCO world heritage site), but produced throughout Central Asia, the suzani combines the best of the silk road’s trade history with spectacular artisanship. Design motifs draw from an ancient iconography, including sun and moon disks, while flowers, organic leaves and vegetation also dominate the design.
